Longmont Sustainability Awards 2023 Celebrated Local Environmental Champions

On Saturday, November 4th, Sustainable Resilient Longmont (SRL) hosted the 6th annual Longmont Sustainability Awards at Intercambio to honor local environmental champions. This year’s event highlighted sustainable transportation with keynote speaker Sarah Thorne of the Colorado Energy Office, head of the eBike Rebate program. Ms Thorne gave an informative overview of the Colorado rebate program, sharing some of the amazing success the program has achieved.

The Awards were attended by 59 residents, including Longmont Mayor Joan Peck, Longmont Council Member Susan Hidalgo-Fahring, and former Representative Mike Foote. Attendees enjoyed a delicious Taco meal followed by cookies from a local High School baker. To reduce catering waste, all the plates used were ceramic and the silverware were metal. They were provided by Intercambio and SRL Board Member Lauren Greenfield and then returned after use.

Attendees were invited to bid on 45 different items donated by organizations including McGann and Associates, Low Rider, Vulture Collective, and Eldora. Some of the items available were wine tasting, an e-bike, a condo stay in Dillon, and ski lift tickets. While attendees bid on items they were entertained by the acoustic guitar stylings of Alex Wirth and his band.

SRL was thrilled to have Ryan Schutz return as the MC for the evening who entertained attendees throughout. The recipients for the awards this year were presented by SRL members who had worked with them throughout the year. SRL was delighted to to award the following recipients:

  • Shana Goodwin, Youth Environmental Leader
  • Philip Zanoni, Volunteer of the Year
  • Stephanie Potter, Public Servant of the Year
  • Sustainable Business in Renewable Energy: Elephant Energy
  • Sustainable Business in Zero Waste: Green Girl Recycling

The event was enjoyed by all who attended, providing an opportunity to reconnect with others while recognising the amazing work that businesses and individuals are doing locally within our community. “SRL is proud to be part of the vibrant Longmont Community, and this event is an opportunity to celebrate and honor local sustainability achievements,” said Board Chair Naomi Curland.
