The Renewable Energy Team

In 2017 the Renewable Energy Committee formed with the goal of a city resolution to achieve 100% Renewable Energy. After achieving that resolution in early 2018, the group joined others in the PRPA service area and gained a similar commitment from the PRPA Board of Directors. We continue to advocate for Platte River Power Authority, Longmont’s power provider, to move to 100% renewable energy by 2030.

To encourage a shift away from fossil fuels, the committee began hosting National Drive Electric Week-Longmont in 2018 and launched the Electrify Longmont campaign in 2022.

What We Do

We advocate for transitioning to renewable energy

We do this by hosting a large Home Electrification and EV fair in the fall, tabling at community events through out the year, sponsoring Green Home tours, working as liasons between the city's Power and Communications department and our Longmont community and advocating for PRPA, our power provider, to move towards 100% renewable energy by 2030

Our Strategy

Education and community outreach

Our goal is for each and every community member who attends our events or an event we participate in, leave with helpful knowledge and plans to start or continue their electrification journey. We strive to be the liason between the city, our utility provider, renewable energy professionals and our community.
